Cobra Sofia and Other Amazonian Legends is the third album by Rafael Senra's projeto Alfa Serenar, recorded in 2021 and released in 2022 by the Polish label Progshine Records. Despite not being a properly conceptual album, the four tracks of this work bring themes related to various Amazonian myths.
Mixed and mastered by Alan Flexa (Estúdio Zarolho), the album features performances by the creator of the Alfa Serenar project, Rafael Senra, in addition to the participation of musicians Forlan Gomes (drums) and Betânia Hernandez (violins).
All the production and post-production of this work was done in the capital of Amapá, Macapá.
Speaking of Amapá, it is from this region that the myth represented in the main song of the album comes from, the title track “Cobra Sofia” (Snake Sofia), a twenty-minute epic that tells the story of the daughter of an Indian and a dolphin. According to popular Amazonian legend, it is this snake that traced the course of the Matapi River. The second track, “Uirapuru”, narrates a myth more common in the Brazilian Amazon region as a whole, in which a dead Indian turns into a singing bird to seduce his beloved. The track “Mapinguari” is instrumental, but brings dark moods that refer to this mysterious Amazonian creature. Finally, “Cerimônia” is a song in praise of the beauties of Northern Brazil.

Well, Tarasque is a bit, innit? But the whole album just has its own ... space ... universe? ... that it defines and owns. If you thought these musicians knew what the word "boundary" meant, think again. This is well outside.
Experimental jams. Gorgeous production. Peter Jones
